MA224 Atlantic mid-low saltmarshes

New search

Description

Strongly halophilous, somewhat patchy estuarine communities briefly sumbersed by almost every tide. They represent (temporally and, on average, also spatially) a transitional, increasingly elevated stage between the pioneer communities of unit MA225 and those in unit MA223. Disturbances brought by river floods and sea storms recurrently generate clearings occupied by pioneer, rapidly proliferating communities of annual Salicornia
